Complementary imaging techniques on different length scales assess properties of intracellular nano-particulate imaging probes incorporated via endocytosis to elucidate limits and potentials of X-ray CT based cell tracking. Cells loaded with sufficient gold nanoparticles (a) can be resolved in vitro (b) and ex vivo (c) using a microCT scanner.
