In hydrothermal coarsening of small anatase nanoparticles, one observed unexpected formation of curved and dislocation-free anatase nanorods grown via oriented attachment. Molecular dynamics simulations show that formation of curved nanorods is actually more energetically favored than straight rods due to more attractive long-range interatomic Coulombic interactions among atoms in the curved rod.
